Centroller Hints

Helpful hints on achieving the best results from your Centroller 3000

If your boiler was firing from time to time without demand (no load boiler firing) before we installed the Centroller for you this has now been automatically remedied, making the first line savings that the Centroller can give.

THE OTHER SAVINGS POSSIBLE ARE UP TO YOU!

The Installer will normally leave your Centroller programmed to similar time and temperature settings to those you were used to.  During the "central heating months" we suggest that you set the central heating programme selector to "on continuous" and key in the required temperature and times for each of the four periods.  In periods where central heating is not required we suggest that you key in a low temperature, generally between 061ºC and 1 01ºC. Your house would not normally be cooled to this extent and the central heating would be off during those periods.  However, in very cold weather the heating would be switched on to minimise the risk of frozen pipes.  The higher you can set the temperature the greater the degree of protection.

It is possible that the Installer will have set your boiler thermostat to a higher setting than you were using to achieve optimum boiler efficiency.  This will most certainly mean that your home will achieve a desirable temperature sooner than before.  Remember, in this case, to streamline your on/off times, so that the system only just reaches temperature by the time you need it and just goes too cool as you are leaving or retiring.

To achieve maximum fuel savings from room temperature settings and on/off timing settings it is necessary to experiment using a trial and error system until optimum results are achieved.

Remembering that the temperature sensing Thermistor might not necessarily be sited in the room that you normally use (i.e. temperature sensor in hall, room used mainly lounge), great significance should not be given to the actual temperature set but more to the COMFORT LEVEL achieved.

We therefore suggest that during all periods where central heating is required that you reduce the temperature Settings by 1 per day until it is felt hat temperatures have been reduced too far. Now by increasing that setting by 1º you will have achieved your optimum COMFORT LEVEL. (Remember that around the 18º to 23º centigrade levels every l temperature reduction means a fuel saving of at least 7%). (It is also a fact that room temperature changes of 11 or less cannot be detected by human skin).

Experiment with your on and off times for central heating periods in the following manner

On rising, check the temperature set has been achieved.  If it has, set the morning on time 10 minutes later for the next day.  On rising, check the set temperature has been achieved and if it has, again set back the morning on time by 10 minutes, repeat until the set temperature is not achieved.  Now you will know that the previous day's on time is the correct setting.

Repeat this procedure for any other repeated on time, i.e. the time that you require central heating when you come home from work or the children come home from school, etc.

Estimate the length of time that your room will stay comfortably warm after programming your Centroller to switch off.  If your estimate is 20 minutes then set your programme OFF time -Lu20 minutes before retiring or leaving.  Check temperature at retiring or leaving time.  If temperature is still OK set next day's programme OFF time to 30 minutes before leaving.

Each day thereafter extend the gap between switch off time and retiring or leaving until the maximum benefit is obtained.

Remember, over heating the house using a higher programme than necessary will eat up your savings.
